Especially for the King, Jade Beds for Sale from the Ming Dynasty in Indonesia

Global7.id – Advertorial,

Agate is increasingly attracting the attention of the people of Indonesia. In accordance with economic law, there are many enthusiasts, so the price of this natural stone is higher and the market is wide. However, many people are starting to justify any means to be able to profit from the agate market.

Recently, a historical activist, Kurniawan, said that he had struggled to block the existence of cultural relics that were threatened to be destroyed by their own owners because these objects were made of jade. The jade relic is a jade bed left by the Ming Dynasty in the 14th century weighing 1,560 kilograms owned by Gani.

In addition, the activist described the jade bed as having dragon and phoenix motifs. According to Chinese culture, the Dragon and the Hong Bird symbolize peace and good omen or good fortune.

This jade bed is said to only have 2 or a pair in the world. This pair of beds is a symbol of the king and queen. “This is a gift for the daughter of the king of Chenghua who married one of the trustees in Indonesia (Sunan Gunung Jati). A pair was made, King and Queen. The King is heavier than the Queen. Now this is the King. The other one belongs to the Cendana family,” explained Kurniawan.

This jade bed is a high-value work of art with detailed and intricate manufacturing techniques. The beauty of this bed emanates from the ornaments and carvings that are found in almost all parts of the bed. Amazing sculptural workmanship. This bed is also equipped with a pair of lanterns or a night light.

“At first the bed was in Solo, the owner lived in Jakarta. The jade bed was inherited. The owner initially didn’t understand about the stone, didn’t take care of it, had rented it to a hotel,” said Kurniawan.

Around 2011, continued Kurniawan, the owner, Ghani Wido Utomo, began to become aware of the procedures for managing culturally valuable heirlooms. Kurniawan also helps Gani to obtain a certificate of ownership of the jade bed.

“The ownership of the bed is taken care of in accordance with the law. Together with the Solo City Government, the Yogyakarta Education Office was examined and designated as a cultural object. Previously there had been a study on the stone,” said Kurniawan.

However, due to high maintenance costs, Ghani was advised to leave the jade bed complete with the lamp at the Sri Baduga Museum, Bandung. Even though it is kept in the museum, the legal ownership remains in the name of Ghani Wido Utomo.

Kurniawan said the difficulty in caring for the jade bed and its fittings was the reason the owner planned to cut the stone to make agate which was then sold.

However, if the piece of jade bed was sold, the price would far exceed the value of the applicable fine. “Just imagine the price of a jade stone measuring 1,560 kilos,” said Kurniawan.

Meanwhile, Ghani Wido Utomo confirmed that he was the rightful owner of the jade bed. But he was reluctant to give an explanation regarding the plan to sell the jade bed nature reserve for rupiah notes.

Basically, according to Kurniawan, Gani knows the consequences of damaging cultural heritage items as stated in Law Number 11 of 2010 concerning Cultural Conservation. Under the law, Gani can be fined a maximum of Rp 5 billion.

According to the Law of the Republic of Indonesia number 11 of 2010 concerning Cultural Heritage, every cultural heritage object can indeed be owned by anyone, both individuals and groups. “However, it is very unfortunate if the legal ownership of cultural heritage objects by individuals is misused, or even damaged, even though it is clearly against the law,” said Kurniawan.

The law states that any individual who destroys cultural heritage objects can be subject to a maximum fine of IDR 5 billion. However, it seems that the number is much smaller when compared to the selling price of the jade bed which is equipped with 2 (two) decorative lamps made of jade serpentinite with a total size (LxWxH): 234x180x285 centimeters, weighing around 1,560 kilograms.
